Clubs and Activities

Art Club

Calling all those who desire to paint, draw or craft. Let your inner artist come alive! Express yourself through experimentation with different types of media. Options include charcoal drawing, painting ink drawing, printmaking, photography and scrapbook making. Bring your creative expressions to this club.

Chess Club

Come learn the basic elements of positional strategies of this amazing game. Develop an understanding of opening principles and endgame. Once this club gets off the ground, we are looking to next year to compete with other schools and outside tournaments.

Drama Production

An opportunity for students to explore theater crafts and skills through participation in school productions. Join the world of the performing arts – acting, singing, dance, movement, public speaking, set design, staging and more. All are welcome to audition for roles or join as a stage crew member in Victory productions.

Hand Bell Choir

Students will share the gift of music by learning to use hand bells to create wonderful sounds. No prior music background is required. Students are instructed after school by an on-staff musician for a nominal fee. Students will demonstrate their skills at special events.

Literary/Magazine Club

This magazine will consist of student writings and visual arts that have been submitted by students and selected by the club moderators for publication. Members are responsible for generating art projects, writing samples and assisting in the layout and editing for the magazine.

Mock Trial

The mock trial team works to prepare the defense and prosecution cases of an actual trial that comes from the Westchester Bar Association. The team's goal is to compete against another high school in Westchester to win their case. Students will be involved as witnesses, lawyers, researchers, etc.

National Honor Society

This society, which recognizes a student's academic achievement, fosters leadership among its members and encourages its members to work together as a group toward a common goal of bettering the community. Activities include: a school tutoring program, volunteer work at Children's Village, a flower sale to benefit The American Cancer Society, volunteers for Habitat for Humanity, sponsors for the American Cancer Society Breast Cancer Walk, and The Barnes and Noble Christmas wrap, where all proceeds go to charity.

Peer Ministry

The purpose of Peer Ministry is to help students develop and nurture their relationship with God. During their gathering, students participate in experiences that encourage this relationship. In addition, students learn group dynamic techniques so that they can minister to other students in school retreats. Each student signs a special covenant regarding her commitment for the year. Peer Ministry is open to Juniors and Seniors.

Science Club

The Science Club provides an avenue through which members may explore facets of science beyond the classroom. It seeks to encourage participation in science related activities and to instill values that reflect appreciation and understanding of science as it relates to life.

Singing Group

The singing group comes together to share the gift of song with one another. Together we prepare to create an atmosphere of music, prayer and celebration for our Liturgies, Prayer Services and for special Victory events – Ring Day, Mother/Daughter Celebration, and the Graduation Mass.

Step Club

The members of Step choreograph and produce their own dance routines. The girls incorporate a variety of the latest music into their dance and step performances.

Student Council

The Student Council is an organization whose members are dedicated to the welfare of the school and the student body. Throughout the year, school events and functions are planned to promote school spirit and school involvement. These events include school dances, Halloween and Christmas decorating contests, Valentine's Day, teacher appreciation day, and the always-popular Fun Fest Day.

Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD)

The SADD group identifies and promotes values, student responsibility, and self-esteem. Additionally, this club teaches teens different strategies for dealing with peer pressure associated with alcohol and drug use.

The Book Club

The book club at OLVA has a membership of approximately twenty-five students. The club meets once a month to discuss and detail a chosen novel in a guided forum.

The Jaguar Spirit Club

This club is largely responsible for generating school spirit at various sporting events and school functions. Members cheer at games, design posters to cheer our teams on, and they also organize special events such as our Pep Rally, Women in Sports Day, and assist the athletic department at organizing the annual Spirit Dinner. Come be a Jaguar Spirit Club member!

The Mercy Leadership Club

Members are responsible for maintaining a spirit of mercy throughout the school. This club organizes school celebrations, such as Mercy Day, which helps to keep the spirit of Catharine McCauley, the founder of the Sisters of Mercy, alive.

Victory in Service and Action (VISA)

Through discussion and action, students explore the needs of our day and respond in service to God's people and world. The organization of food drives is one of the many activities carried out by the VISA club.

Yearbook

The Victorian is a computation of memories, events, people and important happenings at OLVA for the year. The staff of seniors is invited to work with a moderator in the creation of this special book.
