Technology at OLVA

Mercy Learning Online

OLVA is sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy, Mid-Atlantic Community. Being a Mercy school gives us the opportunity to offer our students the use of Mercy Learning Online as well as the chance to gain valuable leadership experience in the Mercy Leadership program. By collaborating with the Sisters of Mercy, as well as our Sister school St. Catharine's Academy in the Bronx, OLVA students are ensured of an education rich in knowledge, spirituality, technology and new experiences.

Internet Acceptable Use Policy

As part of our commitment to academic excellence and in keeping with the mission of Our Lady of Victory Academy, we provide students with the opportunity to use different technology enhancements; students are provided access to the Internet, a worldwide information network. OLVA has Internet connections in 2 labs, the library and many classrooms.

OLVA's Internet services are designed to guide users in navigating throughout the vast resources and also to minimize the possibility of a student accessing materials that are inappropriate for minors. OLVA, however, cannot guarantee that such material will not be accessed.

The following Internet Acceptable Use Practices are not an all-inclusive listing, but general guidelines dictated by decorum, privacy, and respect.

  • As representatives of OLVA, users are responsible for all communications.
  • Participants shall respect the privacy of other users. Users will not publish private information on students or staff without permission.
  • All messages shall be purposeful and appropriate.
  • Users shall respect copyright laws and licensing agreements pertaining to material entered into and obtained via the system.
  • Users shall respect the integrity of OLVA's telecommunications infrastructure.
  • Users may use the Internet for academic (research) purposes only.
  • Users may not access inappropriate materials such as pornographic material or files dangerous to the system.

It is the expectation of Our Lady of Victory Academy that student behavior and actions related to the use of technology (ex. e-mails, instant messages, text messages, and postings, etc.) are appropriate and respectful to ones self and of others. Using the Internet should be exemplary and appropriate both on and off the school grounds.

OLVA retains the right to review and edit any material that is posted through its telecommunication connections. Any user who does not comply with the Internet Access Policy will lose Internet privileges and is subject to disciplinary action. Repeated or severe infraction of the policy may result in termination of access privileges permanently. Intentional deletion or damage to files and data belonging to other users or copyright violations may be termed a violation.
